The Dummerston Fire Department has a range of positions for anyone looking to help their community. We provide opportunities for in house training as well as certification with both the PROBOARD and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. You can learn more about our training below!
Limited to exterior operations, these individuals can raise ladders, handle hose, participate in brush fire events, and many other activities.
Interior Firefighters do it all! interior fire attack, search and rescue, overhaul operations, and any task that involves utilizing an SCBA (Self contained Breathing Apparatus) in environments that would otherwise be dangerous to breathe in.
Do you have an interest in large trucks? Drivers are essential to the operation of the fire service! These individuals learn about operating both fire engines and the pump onboard. Moving water is essential to putting out fires.
EMS personnel are in short supply nation wide. Our community is always looking for individuals who want to help their neighbors when medical emergencies happen. Training with our local partners to earn a NREMT certification is a fantastic way to gain new knowledge and skills than can be applied beyond our department.

These are only a few of the ways in which we train our members in house to maintain our skills and provide new members the basic information and skills they need to operate safely and effectively as part of our team.
Using close relationships with the community we are able to train on how to access locked buildings in the event of an emergency.
In addition we train on the use of ladders, rescue equipment, small saws, and hand tools.
Operating a fire pump is all about moving water! Our members who are able to drive our trucks regularly practice their skills to maintain proficiency. New members who show an interest in driving are first taught to drive before moving to operating the pump.
Training with neighboring towns, utilizing shipping containers, and acquired structures are the primary ways we train to extinguish fire inside of buildings.
Training involves wearing protective equipment and performing searches or mock fire suppression while being unable to see in environments full of smoke.
